The expansion of olive cultivation was included in the country’s Third Development Plan with the aim of promoting public health and reducing the substantial costs associated with cardiovascular diseases. Accordingly, in 2002, the Sabzdasht Olive Oil Extraction and Processing Factory was established in Tarom, known as the heartland of olive cultivation in Iran. The use of Spanish and Italian machinery, along with dedicated technological and research cooperation with ENEX Spain and an expert from the International Olive Council (IOC), has resulted in the production of olive oil as well as green and black olives using the California method. These products are manufactured in accordance with European Union standards and are approved by the IOC.
